Literature Text

In the blackest sky this lonely light
Travels the world over the cover of night;
Its blanket the mist that follows its shine,
It acts as a lost wanderer's single sign.
The twinkling stars its only friends,
It is the keeper of the souls of men
Who pray to its grace and beautiful silver
Whether full or gibbous or crescent or sliver.
It is the creation the raven seeks,
Its hate in its breast and bite in its beak;
As black as midnight, it detests the moon,
For it will not be noticed again until noon
Because of the moon's demand to be noticed
Despite the fact the sun may be missed.
The raven wishes it could be as known,
Both so different yet both all alone.
The raven waits until the new hour
To question the moon about its power
Which makes all stand in bliss and awe
And ignore the raven's desperate caw
For a friend or raven love to find
Underneath the moon's white shine;
The moon answer, "Just be kind
For the result is love, and their love is mine."
The cruel raven sighs in defeat,
Realizing fate was what caused them to meet;
It offers the moon a kiss good night
And promises to be good by next daylight.
